The Pinball Arcade coming to PlayStation 4

Pinball Arcade is coming to PlayStation 4 with lighting and physics improvements, according to Farsight Studios.

Not every game on the PlayStation 4 will be a big-budget blockbuster like Killzone or Infamous. FarSight Studios has announced one of the first planned PSN games for PS4: Pinball Arcade, updated with more figurative bells and whistles.

Although already available on current-gen systems, the PS4 version will include a number of graphical upgrades. A post on the PlayStation.Blog promises "per pixel ray casting, area lights/shadows, point lights and screen space ambient occlusion (which is a fancy way to say even more shadows)." That sounds like one heck of a pretty virtual pinball table.

The studio also mentioned that it will be updating the physics on all of the tables for the PlayStation 4 version. "We're very confident that we can add all of these features on the PS4 and maintain the smooth 60 fps that you need in a pinball game," the post says.

Meanwhile the owners of the Xbox version are more than a year behind on DLC :/

Never buying anything else from Farsight until I see the Kickstarter tables I purchased on the XBOX. It's amazing how little they are doing to appease XBOX 360 owners who are getting burned by their publishing troubles. Some of us have other avenues to play the game but Farsight refuses t bite the bullet and offer promotional codes on other devices for customers who not only already purchased their product but are more than willing to buy more tables. The Pinball Arcade is a good title but anyone thinking of purchasing it should look at the problems the 360 version has had and take it as a warning for other platforms.

It's so frustrating because the core gameplay is great but Farsight is such a poorly run company.

Yep. It's frustrating because I made the mistake of purchasing this for the 360. I have a PS3, iPad, and Vita but I play my other pinball titles on the 360 so it seemed like a no-brainer. I even supported the TZ and ST:TNG Kickstarters and was given the option of receiving a 360 version of each table so I thought nothing of it. I appreciate that they had some sort of publisher problem on the XBOX but they've made no effort to make good, at the very least for those of us who could play the title somewhere else. All we get is silence and/or excuses. It seems like a simple problem to fix, albeit costly. Verify my 360 purchases and give me codes for that content on another platform at Farsight's expense. Hell, they already ave Kickstarter money for tables I'll never see. Use that. Farsight, I want to play your new tables. I want to give you money. Let me do that.

Even with the publisher troubles on the Xbox, I find it really hard to believe it would take this long to transfer the publishing rights. With all of the DLC issues they had before, it seems more likely that they're just incredibly incompetent.

They seriously need to just stop creating tables that can only be played on mobile platforms and the mac and take some time to focus on releasing the backlog of tables for the PS3 (my preferred format since it looks the best) and especially the serious void on the 360 (which has yet to even get the graphical upgrades that the PS3 has, unfortunately).

PA is my absolute favorite pinball game (Zen 2 second), but they really seem to drag their feet on this stuff and screw over entire platforms like the 360.

It's also going to suck to buy all of the tables over again for the PS4 (or PC once Steam wakes the fuck up). Between the PS3 and iOS, I've definitely spent a pretty penny on tables for multiple platforms.

Oh, btw, Farsight posted FB comments about the next release on the PS3 (if anyone cares about that).

Star Trek will be released on March 20th (tomorrow!) and Attack From Mars on March 26th. I'm so stoked for AfM. I play the shit out of that on my ipad.

Hopefully they'll release something in the coming few weeks for the 360.
