Borderlands 2's sixth character coming soon

Borderlands 2's next character seems to be just around the corner, as Gearbox debuted a teaser trailer for a sixth character at SXSW this weekend. It appears this character is melee-focused.

Despite some hedging of bets, the wait for a new Borderlands 2 character might not be so long after all. At SXSW this weekend, Gearbox debuted a teaser-trailer for a sixth Vault Hunter, who appears to be more melee-focused than the rest of the gun-happy crew.

"Deep beneath Pandora, an experiment has escaped," the teaser read, between quick shots of something brutally beating enemies. "Bandits beware, a new vault hunter is coming. More mayhem awaits."

Joystiq reports that Gearbox franchise director Matt Armstrong said, "I don't think you'll have to wait long until you see that character," due to tight DLC scheduling. The company also confirmed that this character is not part of the Season Pass, which means that pass holders will have one more pack remaining after this release.

As Polygon notes, a melee character is in-line with comments made by Armstrong and Jonathan Hemingway, who said during the panel that they lamented the absence of a melee character like Brick in Borderlands 2.

I couldn't get into end-game of BL2 as much as BL1. I played through the entire game and enjoyed it, but haven't touched the DLC, despite having a season pass.

      I don't think I liked the guns as much in BL2 :/

The DLC is pretty bland for the most part, so far. B1's DLC (other than Moxxi) was a lot better.

I wonder if it's because they outsourced all the development? I don't think Gearbox developed a single piece of BL2 DLC.

you should ateast playthrough the second DLC... it's comedy is by far the best in the whole series, but there really isn't much unique stuff going on. (cept the raid boss is easily solo-able and drops more legendaries than any other boss in the game... he is essentially Crawmermax for BL2)

as for unique weapons there are 2 in DLC 1 worth getting (one you get during the story, the other from a sidemission)... the Sand Hawk, and Pimpernel.

DLC 3 looks amazing, but really is designed around the farmers in mind since most of the minibosses has a unique drop to get. (the Hydra is pretty epic with 10000x20 a possible drop)

When do they tell us that it's not included in the season pass?

In a game that's about a "bazillion guns", elemental weapon damage, complete with rocket launchers, how would a melee character be any fun? In BL1, Lilith had this problem with her Assassin Skill Tree. The game just got boring at that point: Step 1 - Take down their shields with some SMG fire. Step 2 - Phase walk around back and smack 'em.

the difference will likely be that the Action Skill is melee focused, where zero just turns invisible.

It would be fun if he used guns by smacking enemies with them. Complete with all the normal elemental/bonus effects.

would be fun if he could use them as clubs and throw rifles with bayonets as lances.

Gearbox isn't getting a penny from me until they fix Aliens - Colonial Marines. That needs to take priority right now, to earn the respect of gamers back. Priority One.
