The upcoming free-to-play Command & Conquer will be set the Generals universe, with the GLA, China and the United States as adversaries. The Red Alert and Tiberium universes will be added, but developer Victory Games also envisions including a new fiction for the franchise.

"We like to say that 2013 is…the beginning of the next 10 years of Command & Conquer games, and we've been building this platform and this first game to start that process," Victory's General Manager Jon Van Caneghem told PC Gamer. "As we mentioned, our first outing is going to be in the Generals universe ... but over time, we want to add the Tiberium universe and the Red Alert universe, even a new fiction we've been working on."

Caneghem also mentioned that a single-player campaign would be a possibility for the RTS as part of weekly or monthly updates. An extended beta is supposed to come sometime this year for the game, which will be running on the Frostbite 2 engine.

not like the C&C games were very consistent or concerned about canon anyway

QFT. C&C was set in a kind of fictional Earth with NOD.

The sequel jumped back in time, killed Hitler, and fought the Soviets.

I'm just amazed the third in the series didn't feature Thracian gladiator Spartacus fighting Mao Tse Tung in the Carina Dwarf Spheroidal galaxy that orbits the Milky Way.

"Weekly or monthly updates"...... LOL, right....... Weekly updates to the cash market is more likely. Such a sad way for C&C to go down.

If this gets a SP, maybe I'll try it. Could we maybe get a standalone download ala Dragon Age Legends?

Me and a mate are currently playing through c&c 4 coop, got it in the ultimate collection.

What a load of shit this game is lol, we're only playing through it to finish the tiberium story since we're both big c&c fans, but it sucks lol. Joe Kucan (Kane) is probably the only good thing in it.

Personally, I had always thought that DICE could do a Battlefield: Tiberium if they were looking to move away from the modern combat genre.

Aahh Renegade, those were good times... till EA Boycotted its own game in favor of Battlefield.

Well, at least they allowed non - official patches.

the recent non-F2P C&C efforts have seemed pretty shitty so at least they're picking the right part of the franchise to revive

Before Serpico74 comes in and says everything I would say, but more eloquently, I would like to support EA for going free to play with this one. Their last couple of Command & Conquer games have failed to takeoff as multiplayer games because there is really only room for one or two paid RTS games in the market. If it's good, then there's a strong likelihood of a healthy multiplayer community.

The sad thing is is that Command & Conquer 4 didn't hit consoles :(

They just turned it into a clusterfuck to finish the story.

C&C games have the same terrible singleplayer campaigns over and over and over.

Bad SP, Bad MP. Yeah, that'll wreck any franchise.

Single Player is the only way this will get played. It's definitely the only way you will get money out of me, hint hint EA (just make sure the SP is better than Tiberium Twilight's was, yes?).
