Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is coming February 5, but it will require a few less coins than you might have been expecting. Sony announced today that the game will cost $39.99 for the PlayStation 3 version. As the game is part of the cross buy program, the $40 price tag includes a download of the Vita game at no extra cost.

If for some reason you don't want the PS3 version, you can pick up the Vita version standalone for $29.99. However, the choice should be pretty obvious. In addition to the price, Sony presented a new trailer to whet your whistle until thieving time rolls around.

Charging more for "cross-buy" is dumb, Sony. Why are you doing this to yourself?

Charging $40 for a game on two systems is dumb how so?

Sounds like a bargain to me. They didn't have to do this at all. They could have done whatever other system would likely due and charge $60 for the PS3 version and $40 for the Vita version.

Depends on how you look at it. You could look at it like they are charging $39.99 for a PS3 game instead of $59.99 AND you get the vita version along with it. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Feb 5th! That's awesome I love these games so much. It's like AssCreed for kiddies (and me).

I think this is the way Sony has to go if it is going to save the Vita. People care less and less about Vita exclusives, largely because they don't deliver the punch that titles on the PS3 do, and more often than not, they are just shoddy ports or lesser spin-offs. At least with cross-buy and cross-play, the Vita can live up to its mantras of "console-quality on the go" and "never stop playing". There will always be room for unique PS3 exclusives, but if you ask me, going forward no PS2 classic (e.g. Grand Theft Auto 3/Vice City) or digital download game within the Vita's capabilities (e g. The Walking Dead) should be released on the PS3/PSN without a pixel-perfect Vita version featuring optional touch controls. THAT is how Sony can save the Vita, not to mention extend the life of both the Vita and PS3 well into the PS4's lifecycle.

Sorry, I meant " There will always be room for unique PS VITA exclusives".
