Star Trek, the series that taught a generation that hacking is an acceptable way to pass a test if you do it with enough cocksure bravado, is getting another (rebooted) installment this summer. A video game, simply titled Star Trek, will feature the younger, hipper Kirk and Spock. Today Paramount announced that pre-orders will get the "Elite Officer" pack, full of goodies to play dress-up with your virtual Vulcan.

The "Elite Officer" pack actually consists of five costume packs, so thank your lucky stars they aren't split up by retailer. The Brawler Pack comes with a leather jacket for Kirk and a Science Academy costume for Spock, the Kelvin pack brings U.S.S. Kelvin uniforms and hand phasers, the Academy pack gives Kirk his Academy uniform and Spock his Officer Dress uniform, plus Academy phasers, and the Kobayahsi Maru pack shows off duds named after the infamous doomed ship. Finally, Stealth pack is the one most likely to impact gameplay, as it packs Stealth uniofrms, a Stealth sniper rifle, and extra ammo.

The game is due sometime this year for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, but no release date has been announced yet. We would wager it will hit sometime near May 17, when the movie Star Trek: Into Darkness hits theaters.

I don't think you're allowed to use the words "good" and "movie tie in" in the same sentence. Well, not usually. I guess they do happen. Just really infrequently.

It should earn double-points because the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie was fucking awful.

Ergo, the game more than exceeded expectations - it exceeded them by a goddamn wide mile.

I thought I heard it's supposed to have campaign co-op, and it looks like a half-way decent shooter at least..... I'll bite on this for the same reasons I bit on Army of Two.
