Aliens: Colonial Marines 'Survivor' trailer has few survivors

A new Aliens: Colonial Marines trailer shows off the "Survival" multiplayer mode.

19

Aliens: Colonial Marines is all about hardened space jocks taking on xenomorphs. But if the movie Aliens taught us one thing, it's that all the badass in the world is no match for an angry killing machine with a tiny mouth inside its larger, conveniently human-head sized mouth.

All that makes the new "Survivor Mode" of Colonial Marines a bit ironic. It's ostensibly about holding ground and withstanding attacks from xenomorphs, but the tension of that situation comes from being absurdly outmatched. The results are predictably gruesome. At one point an alien rips open its jaw and explodes. That happens. How do you even deal with that?

You can check out the trailer below to start formulating your hopeless strategies in preparation for its February 12 launch.

NS2 didn't have any "original" game modes either, did it?

Natural selection 1 was quite unique...

It was a class based, capture point mode with a ticket countdown respawn system. It didn't do anything original. It was good though.

Did the respawns rely on resources or tickets? Can't remember. I liked it though, it was a great mod.

NS1 originally was an RTS/FPS game.

However NS1 did have a game mode called 'Combat' in which you spawned at a point, and attacked each others bases. You got points for killing players which were used towards upgrades.

Ok, I think I might be wrong and need to replay it.

It wasn't the first RTS/FPS hybrid though.

It was the first game where one side had a RTS commander and the other didn't.

While it wasn't the first class based game, I don't recall any game that had any classes similar to those in Natural Selection at that time.

Natural Selection was pretty damn original and unique, dude. :P

It's not just the texturing or graphical bells & whistles that stink, it's the design and movement (imho). Ugh.

I was quite excited about this game but man, the aliens look idiotic (like wasps with ridiculously skinny waists and a overly scrawny build, which is not how I recall them looking from the movies, at least)...also what's with them galloping around? Looked like dogs at the races or something.

Not terribly impressive at all. Dangit. :(
