We're approaching the end of the calendar year, which means it's time for publishers to start putting stakes in the ground for next year's releases. Dead Island Riptide has broken out of the gate, with a release date of April 23, 2013 in North America.

Of course, Dead Island Riptide will be available in a "limited" Special Edition, which adds digital extras to help you survive. The SE will include exclusive weapon mods, a digital strategy map, and a unique character skin.

Dead Island was one of the worst games I've ever played, I'm surprised they're making this.

It was a fantastic co-op game that had a great scaling mechanism so people of vastly different levels could play together and still be challenged. Their user interface was an unpolished mess but its pretty clear that all new IPs come out the door with a lot of quirks and rough edges.

The story was bland and meaningless but hardly bad.

I don't get it. Is this supposed to be a sequel or DLC/expansion pack?
If it's a sequel, it's a very bad idea not having the number '2' in the title of the game.

Haven't really been following this as I previously just ignored it as DLC.

it only needs a number 2 if it continues a story. if it has new characters and a new island, why would a 2 matter?

Well I meant from a marketing perspective. IMO, it's a bad idea not to include the sequel number.

Word. I think of it as a continuation of the story of the four heroes from the first game, kinda like how Serious Sam had Encounters 1 & 2 before Serious Sam 2 was released. Or AC2 got Brotherhood and Revelations to continue the story of Ezio before AC3.

There was news several months ago that Techland copywrited Dead World, which many still believe will be the direct sequel of Dead Island.
