PlayStation Store getting new look on October 23

The PlayStation Store is getting a total overhaul on October 23.

Say your goodbyes to the old blue bars. The PlayStation Store is getting a sleek revamp in a couple of weeks, which replaces blue with black and its buttons with large picture displays. It comes with several usability tweaks and re-categorized content for easier browsing. Eurogamer got a look at the new style, which seems to owe a lot to Microsoft's "Metro" style selections in Windows 8 and the Xbox 360. Instead of tiles of menu selections, the store will display larger picture panels for the main content. Categories like Games are divided into two sections: featured content like "PS Plus" and "Top Sellers," and regular categories like "PS3 Games" and "Demos." Those sub-categories also boast new filtering options, like Game Type, Price, Play Type, and Release Dates. Other usability improvements come to the Search, which has both predictive text and smarter results. The Store displays a section for Vita games clearly, but Sony hasn't announced the new storefront coming to the PlayStation Vita itself. That device's store look might remain the old style for a while to come. VG247 reports that the update will come to the US PlayStation Store on October 23, just after its Europe release on October 17.

These are European screens, but the US Store will get a similar revamp

Maybe it won't run like a pig when I browse it now?

Big pictures + text = Metro now? It already has this look, right, just the style is different and much easier on the eye (just referring to the promo spots).

Seriously it needed it. Now how about downloadable PS2 games and PS1/PS2 games that don't cost MFN $20!!!

Maybe it could actually contain info about the games....like screenshots...or a video.

there are gameplay videos on 90% of the downloads. perhaps people not being able to figure that out is why they are changing the UI

Not before time. The old look was very hard to see, even on a big TV.
