Nothing wins over the Japanese market quite like Monster Hunter, and Nintendo made a shot directly at it during today's Wii U conference. The company announced that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will hit the Wii U and 3DS in March of next year.

Most exciting for fans of the series may be the ability to progress in the two games simultaneously with the same save data, giving a cross-platform approach reminiscent of Sony's recent moves with the PlayStation 3 and Vita. Wii U players can also play locally with 3DS players, and 3DS owners can get into four-player local matches on the system. In the 3DS version, you can exchange your "guild card" via StreetPass.

This would be the one and only reason I'd pickup a WiiU in any form. Monster hunter 3 with HD graphics on a XBL/PSN online setup. Without Online of any form allowing me to play with anyone under the sun in any region this game I'd never get a WiiU.

MH was the reason I got a PSP and soon to get a 3DS-XL. This is a game I've poured MONTHS into and can still go back and do more with it.

Did you ever play the Wii version with split screen? Having recently moved within walking distance of a good friend that likes gaming, I've gotten the itch for solid couch co-op and noticed Monster Hunter Tri has it.

        Is it any good?

Split screen is just an arena mode (with set load outs to boot). The best way to play it multiplayer is with multiple Wii's online where you can do actual missions and make phat armor loots.

Bummer. I barely want my Wii, no way I can talk this friend into getting one.

Yeah, it blows, but you really kinda need the whole TV for each player just to keep up with what's going on.

I already beat MH3P-HD on the ps3. So basically the only thing this will give me is the new acid spitting monster?

3G also re-added underwater combat, as well as a new elder dragon that you fight on land and underwater.
