The long-awaited indie game Spelunky finally has an official release date and price on the Xbox 360. The game is launching on July 4 for $15 (1200 MSP), because nothing says "American independence" like digging for treasure. It won the Excellence in Design prize at the IGF 2012 awards, and was a runner-up for Technical Excellence as well.

The price and date were revealed on the Major Nelson blog with a handful of other upcoming discounts and XBLA releases. The full game has been available as freeware on PC since 2009, but the Xbox 360 version adds local multiplayer with co-op and deathmatch modes for up to four players.

oh come on, the pc version isn't 'crappy shareware'. It stands in it's own right..did you call the original Cave Story the crappy shareware version?

I guess it's just calling it crappy implies that it was made as an afterthought or that it's not a good game in it's own right. It's still a full game, just doesn't have all the bells and whistles the new version has.

it's a bit of an exaggeration but they're definitely adding a bunch of stuff to the XBLA version that'll make it worth it

i played the shit out of spelunky but i plan on buying the xbla version at some point.
