Need for Speed: Most Wanted coming from Criterion Games

As expected, this year's entry to EA's annual racing franchise comes from Criterion Games, developer of Burnout Paradise and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

Yesterday, EA confirmed the existence of one of its least-guarded secrets: Dead Space 3. Today, the publisher is confirming yet another not-so-veiled game: Need for Speed: Most Wanted. As expected, this year's entry to EA's annual racing franchise comes from Criterion Games, developer of the Burnout franchise.

The original Most Wanted released in 2005, with an emphasis on police chases. It appears Criterion's take on Most Wanted will do the same, as the first screenshot from Geoff Keighley shows. Criterion's previous game, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, was critically praised for introducing Autolog into the franchise.

More details on this sequel are expected at E3 next week.

Criterion + police chases + classic NFS title?

Looks like it's time to buy a Need for Speed game again.

Origin-only, preorder DLC, multiplayer KEY required, no steam release.

        You'll be fine!

Really? I thought it was entirely terrible as a driving game. Maybe as an arcade racer?

That's one of the least bullshotty bullshots I've ever seen. Looks great.

I'm going to guess that's coming from the 360 version? It looks like the aliasing (on vehicles) is coming through the DOF (take a look at the police SUV on the upper right side) filter which was a limitation of DX9. Post-processing AA support? VISTA BITCHES

:) this, I agree, man am I so looking forward to it.

Not sure the pic is 2048x1280 but that does not mean anything. Yeah that was my guess as well fro the AA you can pretty much always tell that way. Also good call on the DOF \m/ totally agree.

I would've been excited about this, but it's going to be mechanically different from Most Wanted (since it is Criterion) and I'm not sure that is a good thing, and it is going to be published by EA (not a fan) so it will probably have some BS that I can't tolerate from them.

It is so sad, Most Wanted was the last great NFS game that Black Box made.

^^^ This. The first Criterion NFS was not very good as a racing game. Criterion has, IMO, never been good at making a game with cars that were fun to drive. They are great with wrecks, but I hate the steering and handling feel going all the way back to the original Burnout on Gamecube.

In a perfect world, I would wish for GRID handling and damage with police chases. I know GRID 2 is on the horizon, but Codemasters has me nervous after their last few Dirt titles. I hope the presentation is closer to the F1 titles that Dirt.

Whenever I got into the car after starting up Most Wanted, this song would make me drive as fast as possible as quickly as possible:

Say whatever you want about rap or rap/rock remixes, but this song PUMPED me up to drive in MW1. I hope the soundtrack is as good in Most Wanted 2!!

Really disappointed it's Criterion. Their cars don't drive in a fun way. I have been consistently bored by the driving in every single Criterion racing game, which is pretty bad for a racing game. I still believe Dirt 2 to have one of the best driving models in history, but NFS:MW2005 was really, really good. I hate to hear they're going to "Criterion" this one.
