Witcher 2 dev hiring for new RPG IP

CD Projekt RED has hinted at a new RPG on its company Web site, hinting that the setting and tropes will be different than the dark fantasy of the Witcher series.

CD Projekt RED has carved out a name for itself in the RPG genre with The Witcher series, providing a dark fantasy world with plenty of detail to scratch more mature sensibilities. But that franchise is based on a series of Polish novels of the same name, and now it seems CD Projekt is ready to step out on its own with an original RPG.

The company Web site seeks eager developers for "an entirely new and different IP - a vast RPG for which we want to assemble the best possible staff." The paragraph differentiates this new RPG from the dark fantasy world pretty explicitly, and then suggests the new series could deal with more recent (or future) tech. "No matter if it's with guns or swords, we're just having a good time here."

None of the job listings for the untitled project shed much light on it, other than referring to it as "RPG in a Brand New Setting." It seems fairly early, so we may have to wait a while before we learn more details about exactly what this new setting is. The job openings also list another dark fantasy project, likely another game in the Witcher series.

The forums said they were working on Witcher3 AND a new IP. I'll see if I can find the link.

They love Dark Souls, so I'm hoping they rip it off some more.

Rip it off? The Witcher was released in 2007. Dark Souls was released in 2011. Even Demon's Souls was released only in 2009.

Get your facts straight, they ripped off nothing.

lol, look at this guy. CD Projekt RED have publicly stated that they're fans of the Souls games and the some of the design choices in The Witcher 2 and the "Dark" difficulty were inspired by them. This is the good kind of ripping off; I wasn't being sarcastic.

Oh god I'm in a front page thread HELP ME

So one or two features are similar? That's like saying Valve ripped off id in that both Half Life and Quake contain guns and shooting.
From what I know Demon's/Dark Souls are practically pure mechanics, the story being a fairly minor consideration. In both of The Witcher games story is the single greatest focus.

Is there some negative stigma attached to posting on a front page news item? I check the Shack everyday so to me EVERY story when I look at it is generally on the front page.

Also, go to the library, get yourself a library card and do some reading regarding the english language. Learn the word "connotation" before you write "ripping off" as a positive.

DS and Witcher are very different types of games. Both RPG's but DS is entirely gameplay. It's like 40+ hours driven by combat/loot/leveling/exploring. Witcher games have the same mechanics in them, but are entirely driven by story, dialogue and cutscenes

Don't worry commenters, the Shack just failed to mention that there are TWO projects currently in the works and looking for more devs, one of which is obviously the Witcher 3. The other one is the "completely new IP" that might involve guns.
