Transmedia movie-and-game tie-ins are all the rage for games these days. Look at Dragon Age and Assassin's Creed for recent examples. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is no exception. It will connect with a 25-minute movie titled Ghost Recon Alpha, teased by Ubisoft today with a trailer.

The short will air on G4 this Thursday, May 3, at 6:30 PM, but check your local listings to be sure. It features Academy Award winning directors Hervé de Crécy and François Alaux, with a script by Tim Sexton (Oscar nominee for Children of Men) and Gregory Pruss, and cinematography by Trent Opaloch (District 9). All in all, it's a pretty impressive list of involved filmmakers.

The four characters in Alpha are the same ones featured in Future Soldier. The game picks up right where the movie leaves off, after an attack on a major European city. The setting for the film will also be a multiplayer map in the game, and the film hides a "secret code" that fans can enter to unlock an exclusive weapon. You can watch with a pen and paper in hand, or just look it up on the Internet when the game comes out, like a normal person.
