Back in Action brings Jagged Alliance 2 into shiny 3D to once again toss a naughty dictator off the island he's taken over, though a few things are different. Most notably, where combat was once turn-based, it's now a blend of turn-based and real-time, somewhat resembling Frozen Synapse.

Jagged Alliance: Back in Action can be pre-ordered from Steam now at the discounted price of $33.49, though it's a Steamworks title so retail copies will be activated on Steam anyway. The European release is slated for February 10.

You'll find a few glimpses of the new "plan & go" combat in action in this trailer:

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I'm not expecting a whole lot, but I hope (despite its inevitable flaws) it ends up being a fun game.

        I wish that
        1) They'd done a new island for sector variety (keep the guns, mercs, etc. I don't care).
I've played JA2 so much I have the map memorized

        2) $40 seems a bit steep, but I'll probably bite on it
