It's been difficult to describe thatgamecompany's Journey. However, a studio producer admits the team found inspiration from some unexpected sources. Robin Hunicke explains how hardcore dungeon explorer Demon's Souls and Minecraft inspired her team.

"Demon Souls and Dark Souls are things we've talked about a lot in the office," Hunicke told CVG. "They've been inspiring to me. Also Minecraft - the idea you can create a server and people can go in and share that experience of crafting and creating without necessarily collaborating."

She calls this type of gameplay "asynchronous but reflexive." Journey itself is more lonely experience, but Thatgamecompany has explored similar territory with a second player that you can travel alongside, with limited communication options.

Journey is due in spring 2012.

Argh...hurry up and release it already. I wasn't one of the lucky ones to get into the beta for Journey. I thought my Plus subscription would have granted me access. It seems jumped on the Flower bandwagon a little to late. At least the experience will be fresh! That's a positive. Really looking forward to this title!
