Though Rainbow 6 Patriots isn't expected until 2013, its recently released 'target gameplay' trailer and unique premise has sparked a lot of interest. Ubisoft provided a few more answers today, detailing some of the planned features for the title, along with a few images of what the team is going for. They're not screenshots, but they do provide a little better idea of what to expect from the eventual game. The story for the game takes a grabbed-from-the-headlines approach, pitting the Rainbow team against domestic terrorists fed up with corporate and political greed. As the leader of the team, the player will be able lay out a tactical plan, or use a one-button system to command the squad to take the most effective action given the situation. Once in combat, the cover and weapon systems have been redesigned, with rappel and breach mechanics enhanced with new techniques such as wall and ceiling breach, fast rope rappel, inverted 'Aussie style rappel,' and infiltrate and subdue, and more. Multiplayer also sees improvements, starting with the pre-game lobby. A 'sandtable' holographic display will let players put together their plan of attack before launching the match. The press release also promises that Patriots will reward teamwork and use of the good squad communication and tactics. How exactly that works will be something to watch for as we learn more about the game in the coming months.

Actually someone else took it upon themselves to beg for him. I don't hold Garnett responsible for the thread, only for being derelict in his duties to be able to cover PC games.

I would not be surprised if it's console only. Even if they do port it, it probably won't use Steamworks which means the community won't be large and it won't last as long. I think I'll be going Xbox 360 on this one. Last Ubisoft game I bought was Rainbow 6 Vegas 1. R6 is the only franchise left in Ubi's stable I care enough to buy (THI4F is probably still in development hell). The community for this game will be on 360.

"A 'sandtable' holographic display will let players put together their plan of attack before launching the match."

      ...Okay, THAT got my attention.

Obviously, that sort of thing isn't going to work with a bunch of randoms, but this could have major implications for organized play...

If the PC version is adapted properly to the PC, this could be intriguing. The odds of that happening are probably pretty slim but you never know...

LOL @ " a one-button system to command the squad to take the most effective action given the situation." So it's basically the "play the game for me" button.

Penicillin I wish you would move along with the times who can say no to a Rainbow 6 game with all the tactical depth and dramatic force of Mass Effect 2? Isn't that what Rainbow 6 was about all along? Game developers are just letting you have that experience more directly.

        Sigh, PC gamers...

Ubisoft has been the pioneer with this - I first remember it in Prince of Persia where you just held down an action button and he would jump and swing everywhere automatically. Same with AssCreed

God every time I hear an announcement about a new Rainbow Six game I lament the glory days of tactical shooters where you could plan your every move in minute detail while listening to intense music to get you ready.
