Mario's tall, cowardly brother will be playable in Super Mario 3D Land, as revealed by a lengthy new gameplay video. Art director Kenta Motokura revealed that Luigi will be accessible in special stages, which open after beating world 8-4 with Mario. As in previous games, Luigi will be a bit lighter on his toes than Mario.

The trailer (via Siliconera) shows off a brief snippet of Luigi in its eight minutes of gameplay. You can also check out a few suits in action, new power blocks, and even enemies sporting a Tanooki tail. Check it out below.

They put a raccoon tail on practically everything it looks like, and the whole box thing is kinda interesting.

Well this looks like pretty much a gimped version of Super Mario 64, which, though a remake, was a launch title for the ORIGINAL DS and a far better use of 3D space.

Whaaat? The perspective is confusing as shit. If you're playing it in 3D, fine, but few people actually have that on all the time because of battery life reasons, eye strain, or because it just doesn't work for some people. With 3D off trying to judge where 80% of the things on the screen are seems annoying.

There is nothing in that video that relied on 3D to play. They made good use of perspective to vary gameplay while keeping it fun. If anything this looks better and more playable than SM64.

I've had my 3DS since launch and rarely play it without the 3D on; SFIV excepted. Not only that, but Super Mario 3D Land was one of the handful of 3DS games I saw this year that didn't feel gimmicky. The 3D genuinely made the game more fun imho.

I sort of understand what you're saying. Its just like how new super mario bros seemed so simple compared to super mario 3/super mario world. I was disappointed myself.

The movement looks really slow and still in this 3DS game. Very un-Mario :(

I don't know how they do it, but every time they make a Mario game, I want to play it. Badly!
