Dark Souls Japanese launch plagued by online bugs

Dark Souls is reportedly suffering from freezing bugs, and From Software is working hard to fix them as soon as possible.

Yesterday, gamers cracking open early copies of Dark Souls were getting the unconfirmed but awesome punishment of being taken down by absurdly high-level characters. Today, legitimate players are reportedly facing a bigger problem: bugs. Fortunately, From Software is aware of the problems and working to fix them before the game releases in the west.

The bug is outlined on the From Software site (via Kotaku). One bug doesn't let players progress past the main screen, while the other freezes up during online play. From apologizes for the bugs and is planning a patch as soon as possible.

Dark Souls is due on October 4 in North America, which gives them about two weeks to fix the offending bugs with a day-one patch.

Hopefully this is all better by the US release.

"We're aware of the bugs, we just decided not to fix them before release. We know our customers prefer the beta testing experience, and we wouldn't want to deliver a completed product and deprive them of that"

Bit of a sensationalist headline. Sounds pretty standard for a online game launched in Japan. Nothing to worry about.
