      Always had a soft spot for ID. When I was 14 playing Doom on a 256 color monitor plugged into a laptop with no sound, they still managed to give me heebie jeebies. They introduced me into multiplayer gaming in 1999 with Q3A. And I'm still playing the damn thing 12 years later (Well, Quake Live but same thing). Pretty epic really. I still think the Quake 3 Engine is one of the greatest gaming engines ever, I still love the look of it.

      very excited about this one. I've been a fan for 20 years now (whoa.) so I feel like this actually means something to me. I remember the doom alpha, if that means anything to anyone...

        I still remember being blown away when I played Doom after getting hooked on Wolf3D. It seemed like such a huge advance in tech for the time.

      I wish someone would've asked if they'd ever consider working with Romero again. Carmack doesn't seem to be bitter when recalling him and to be honest they feel like a pale shadow of what they were when he was there. It probably wouldn't be the same even still since there's now 200+ employees, but his influence is sorely missed in my opinion.

        Word. What's he up to now anyway? Last I heard, he married his eastern european fangirl, and worked on mobile games.

          He's still doing odds and ends types of games, but as far as I know he isn't with the euro girl anymore.

            He divorced quietly at some point a few years ago with the Romanian girl.

            He is nowadays hanging around with Brenda Brathwaite who is more his age.
            They together started the mobile gaming company Lootdrop, I think Tom Hall was involved again with this company like usually in Romero's companies.

              He's been "out of the game" for a long time in regards to huge AAA FPS titles, but it would be fucking HUGE if he was able to come back to id and help them design it. I personally wouldn't want them to attempt a Quake 1 remake without him either.

            I see he did Ravenwood Fair. That's a pretty good (social) game, it's nice to see he hasn't lost the touch. Here's to hoping he'll do some work with Carmack once again someday!

        imagine John Romero and Trent Reznor working on Doom 4, that would be the best thing ever :(

          If there's any one guy who just got what Doom gameplay meant, it's Romero. I never subscribed to the Willits slow-n-scary=Doom idea.

          Reznor on Doom 4 would definitely be interesting if he was up for it, but my ideal soundtrack combo would probably be him + a good metal band (not necessarily NIN) doing songs in the same style from Doom 1 and 2. If id ever does the Q1 remake, Reznor is mandatory and frankly so is Romero IMO.

            The problem is, most gamers today don't know what DooM's gameplay meant. Also, DooM3 was not slow.

        Errrr... Isn't that like calling John CARMACK, John ROMERO?
