The Secret World trailer visits Solomon Island

Funcom beckons us into its supernatural take on our real world with a new trailer for its classless MMORPG The Secret World, visiting the damned Solomon Island.

After so many years of fantasy and sci-fi MMORPGs, The Secret World is an awfully welcome and refreshing change, thanks to its real-world setting. Real-world-ish, at least, as it's filled with supernatural horrors and goings-on. A new trailer takes us on a tour of sleepy Solomon Island, stopping by its spooky funfair, deserted town, and haunted shores.

The Secret World's being developed by Funcom under the direction of The Longest Journey writer and game director Ragnar Tørnquist, primarily for PC. Funcom plans to create some sort of Xbox 360 version, but it's a secondary concern and not yet definite. There's no solid word yet on when the MMORPG will be released. It'll be co-published by Funcom with EA.

Looks pretty cool. I definitely like the genre of a modern-day alternate reality MMO isntead of the same old fantasy stuff. My biggest concern (without really knowing much of anything about the game) is the visuals look like they'll take a pretty beefy rig to run well with more than just 3 players and 1 mob on the screen at the same time. That can really limit subscribership. Hopefully FunCom can redeem themselves after AoC, but I'll wait until this thing ships and has been out for a month or 2 before I sign up.

Maybe they are trying to turn it into the new Duke Nukem?

I wonder if there will be a lot of Longest Journey references in this game.

It's nice to see MMO's that aren't the old Sword&Board.

That "crouch-casting" image (from an early trailer) killed all my interest in this game.
