Konami reveals Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders and Silent Hill 'HD' Collections

Konami's Hideo Kojima has revealed HD collections for three of its most beloved franchises: Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders, and Silent Hill. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will come to both the Xbox 360 and PS3 and include Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Strangely, the original Metal Gear Solid is absent from the collection. The game had previously been revamped for release on the GameCube by developer Silicon Knights in Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. The Metal Gear Solid Collection is scheduled to arrive this November. As expected, the Zone of the Enders HD Collection packs the original Zone of the Enders and ZOE 2: The 2nd Runner on the Xbox 360 and PS3. ZOE Collection will arrive sometime in 2012. On the PlayStation 3, the MGS and ZOE collections will include a "Transfarring" feature. In MGS, the feature allows users to transfer Peace Walker saves from the PSP to the collection. The new technology will also allow players to transfer file saves between the platforms to allow for play on the PSP at one moment and then "transfarring" the save to the PS3 to play the same save file on the television.

Kojima reveals the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for Xbox 360 and PS3, coming November 2011.

Details on the ZOE feature were not revealed; however, deductive reasoning tells us that the collection will allow save files from the classic games to be imported in the collection (provided you own a backwards compatible system or a memory card transfer kit), at the very least. Konami notes it will detail ZOE's "Transfarring" feature soon. Lastly, the Silent Hill Collection will bundle Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 along with a fresh coat of HD paint. No platforms were revealed.

Silent Hill isn't a series that I really enjoy revisiting anymore, but at the time I thought the games were pretty fucking fantastic. The gameplay is part of it, but I don't think the storylines and themes are terribly interesting anymore either :(

though the secret UFO Ending for Silent Hill 3 is fucking tits

also, I don't think you need a backwards compatible system, just a memory card transfer kit.

Zone of the Enders? Never played it but have always been intrigued. Depending on the price, I may buy it for the 360. Smart business decision to release these "re-makes" on both consoles.

Added a few extra details on "Transfarring." You can basically swap save files from the PSP to the PS3, and back again to play your games on either platform at home or on the go. All with the same save file.

ZoE was a very good game but I'd have to say ZoE2 is one of my top 5 games on PS2. Can't wait for this.

Maybe with an update it could be, but gameplay-wise that's definitely not true. I bought it on PSN and haven't been able to get more than 15 minutes into it before setting it aside.

...why would you expect a PC release of those games?

I didn't but the neogaf rumor said Steam versions. HD releases were plausible but common sense drew the line at Steam versions so I thought the whole thing was bullshit. Turns out it was about half true.

I'm just excited that Silent Hill 2 is being remastered. Even though the PC version is really high res already, I'm curious to see how this looks on the PS3. Also, I somehow skipped the Zone of the Enders series altogether, I was too occupied with MGS2 at the time. Cool news!

Pretty weird that MGS1 isn't included, but at least it's available on the PSN.
I wonder if Peace Walker will have multiplayer.

The art in MGS2 and 3 is already solid, so a fresh coat of post processing and some 1080p + AA is all they need. Sprucing up MGS1 would be a LOT more work. And before anyone suggests it, they probably couldn't use the art assets from Twin Snakes because it was developed by another company.

Twin Snakes was assisted in production by Nintendo so you won't see it on another platform ever.

I'll be getting the MGS HD Collection on 360 for sure, even though I already own the current MGS Collection for PS2, because my 360 is the system I play most games on as it's connected to my monitor in the den. My PS3 hardly gets any play as is, and this will only SOLIDify that. ;)
