Morning Discussion

As the weekend slowly approaches, prepare yourself for adventure with the brilliant music video for Losers - "Flush". Victorian stylings, cephalopods and monarchs as colossal bio-mechanical tanks. Truly the best of British. I'm told there's also some sort of soundtrack attached but I wouldn't know about that. Gawd save the Queen!

Personally I'm not thinking about the weekend at all, only the week of mega monster media mayhem that will follow--E3. I'll be running on USA time and no doubt barely sleeping but I'm feeling confident about it all. This should be a good E3 for Shacknews.

So the SC2 beta is over for now, but we can still play custom maps.

    What are your favorites, shack?

these are pretty well known, but

      multitasking trainer:

Have a probe on a separate island, have to keep it alive while you build up a base, rescue a unit on another island, and then kill a terran base (and they'll attack you on anything but very easy) within a certain amount of time. Different difficulty levels, have to keep queen/CC/nexus energy below a certain point and minerals have to stay below a certain point.

I haven't actually used this one yet, but it sounds insanely useful. I especially like being able to send friends your build order for them to try.

      Hex'd

you control a single caster. 5 different abilities, up against 6? opponents. You get to choose your specialization at the start. Bots + difficulty changing included. Bots are surprisingly good. Video:

It's not perfect. The basic attack ability (bound to Q by default) is way too powerful if you put all 5 points into the +15% explosion radius talent, but it's still a lot of fun. (It only takes one hit to kill anything, so the big radius makes it way too easy, plus you can use it on yourself to destroy any incoming projectiles if your repulsion ability is on cooldown).

I'm still fiddling around with the Multitasking trainer, the Unit tester, and the build order tester. No reason not to use this break to up my skills with the basics!

I'm still bummed that the beta lag made it impossible to play most any custom maps other than stuff like Battlecraft and tower defense. I don't care that much about SC2 itself, I just want to play some sweetass custom maps.

surely the lag was the fault of the custom maps, not the game. because the built in maps worked fine 99% of the time

No they didn't, even ladder games had horrible input lag - it's like a half second delay on every action you take. That delay is a minor nuisance in an RTS but it totally breaks anything with keyboard controls or otherwise requiring fast reflexes. Maybe the regular games take priority on the server or something and so don't have it as often, I don't know, but it's nothing to do with the maps.

no delay for me, never had a single problem like you describe unless the opponent was lagging out

Yeah I never saw any lag on that in the games I was monitoring.
