EGM Relaunches with Online 'Lost Issue'

7
Signaling the rebirth of the once-defunct gaming magazine, EGM has released its long-lost February 2009 issue in digital form.

The issue--available to those that register for free over on the official site--offers a glimpse into the magazine's new digital format, which includes moving graphics similar to motion comics, optional audio, and a ticker bar that scrolls across the bottom of the screen.

The February 2009 issue represents the last of the long-running publication to be completed while it was owned by Ziff Davis, which stopped publishing the magazine after its January 2009 issue. Shortly thereafter, EGM founder Steve Harris announced plans to revive the publication, later revealing that the relaunch would feature digital content.

However, that doesn't mean EGM is abandoning the physical space. Moving forward, EGM plans to release monthly printed issues supplemented by weekly online issues, with subscribers getting access to "enhanced" online content like "additional features, exclusive content, and special DLC you won't find anywhere else." So they want me to read a magazine that is over a year old? I am confused as to why they would release this?

Oh, I thought EGM was dead completely. I had no idea they were still trying to release something.

I wonder if they are switching to an iPad delivery system or something.

Not bad. Here's hoping they release a iPad version. That'd be sweet.

Yeah, it sounds like it's made for the iPad.

This issue of EGM was to be the 20 anniversary issue. Significant if you're a fan. And it's the true final issue of the Ziff Davis years. So it's a "historical" issue.
