Evening Reading: 2010 IGF Voting Complete

I spent most of this holiday Monday playing and judging the finalist games in the IGF main competition. When you have some time I highly recommend checking out the nominees. A number of them have free demos, some also have paid full versions that aren't particularly expensive, and at the very least you will find videos of the game in action.

Indie games get more exposure now than ever before but they're really something you need to experience. Whether a conventional design, such as the popular run of indie platformers of late, or something more abstract, the small -- at times one-person -- teams putting the games together put you as the player as close to the designer as possible. When they work the result is an unrivaled sense of pure connection with the game.

We figured on a fairly quiet day today but there were a few goings-on:

Anyone else have sinus issues. I got surgery and thought it would all be better, but I still get sinusitis all the time.

Yeah, I've got a sinus infection right now. I'm gonna go see a doctor tomorrow.

I got a constant one upon moving to Texas and I read somewhere that this is not uncommon. They have me on Flonase and some antihistamine. Wonder what's up with that.

i used to get one or two a year when i lived in california, arizona, and north carolina. i havent had any since i moved to texas, but maybe it has to do with being older rather than where i am.

I can usually only breathe through one nostril at a time. What's wrong with me?

After seeing tons of patients with persistent symptoms after sinus surgery (especially antrectomy), I really advocate a full court press medical therapy before surgery!

Yup, I just had another sinus infection last week. Now the doctors have me on (free) daily Claritin and Nasonex.

I think I need antibiotics, but don't have the $40 bucks to pay for a dr visit and then the prescription.

Same here. Took today off because mine were hurting so bad. Feels better now after doing a few sinus rinses, but it's still bothering me.

Yeah, I need to start rinsing again. I hate doing it before bed, though because it drains down my throat.

I wish my nose wouldn't swell up all the time, but that's about as bad as mine get :|

be careful with nasal sprays. i got a bit hooked on the vicks sinex nasal spray last summer and the rebound was fucking horrific.

Right, I'm trying to stay away from that route. I got a bunch of free Nasonex once and had a hell of a time trying to live without them.

I used to, but haven't had a real one for a good while now. Maybe because I have a scorched earth poicy when I start getting stuffed up. Nasal spray, decongestant, some water up the nose.

I've found Claritin-D (the real stuff) works wonders for congestion or nasal inflammation.
