Brutal Legend Pre-orders Get Demo First

6
Following up on the revelation that a downloadable Brutal Legend demo is due September 17, it now seems that date only applies to those who pre-order the game.

The Brutal Legend Blog clarifies that pre-ordering brings demo access, with a link to retailer GameStop adding that pre-ordering folk get the demo "a week before anybody else." Demo access for pre-orders "begins" on September 17, meaning the demo won't be publicly available for everyone else to download until September 24.

The full version of Double Fine's metal action-adventure, now free of legal hassles, hits PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 13 in North America and October 16 in Europe.

Demos early for preorders is such an odd trend. A demo is supposed to sell someone undecided on the game, and someone who has preordered is hardly undecided.

Not really. Many demos can make someone completely lose interest in a game, but people who preorder are kind of bound into buying the game (yeah, I know preorders can be canceled but a lot of people don't want to go through the trouble).

I'm sure this business strategy has been proven to work in game sales numbers, which is why they keep doing it.

Those that pre-order are likely going to be able to shill how great the game is if they actually play the demo. As long as you're not denying the demo to non-pre-orders (or least still getting the demo out before the game), it doesn't cost much but can be extra marketing.

      I agree, it's fucking broken.

This way you can find out the game you just bought sucks before it's too late to do anything.

Why would you buy first if you're gonna test it out?
