Sacred 2 PC Expansion Still in the Works

In the wake of Kalypso's purchase of a "majority of licenses and assets" from bankrupt developer Ascaron and creation of a new studio with 15 of its former staffers, Ascaron has confirmed that it is still at work on the PC expansion for its action-RPG Sacred 2.

"In a nutshell, the Addon is not affected by anything and will come as planned," Ascaron's Anca Adelina Finta wrote on the company's forums after the license deal was revealed in early June. The news was overlooked by many due to the chaos of E3, with Kalypso's recent naming of the new studio bringing the details to light.

"Studio 2 (subsidiary company of Ascaron) has the licence for Sacred 2 and the devs will continue working at the Addon as they did before," Finta added. "Kalypso and the other devs will do something different with the old licences they bought."

"I really wish them good luck with that, they deserve it."

DarkStar One, The Patrician and Port Royale and On the Ball were among the licenses Kalypso picked up, with the company planning to release The Patrician III this summer.

Upon filing for bankruptcy earlier this year, Ascaron noted that its development team had been working on an expansion pack for the PC edition of Sacred 2 along with Sacred 3. The company has yet to offer any additional word on the fate of Sacred 3.
