Morning Discussion

Whatever Wednesday, I don't have to do what you say. You're not my real dad!

....

I'm sorry, I didn't mean that. Today is hard for both of us. Let's give it another shot, eh?

I posted this to the front page story about Druids getting updated models/textures but I wanted to see what the other nerd ragers thought because the front page stories don't get much love. TLDR: I don't like the druid form system and I think it should have been overhauled instead of tweaked. A system that allowed you to take on the form of a tank-like or dps-like (based on hunter classes) animal in the wild with bolt on NE/Tauren features would have been cool. Or a were-bear or were-wolf form where you can remain a biped and wield/wear your gear.

I've played WoW since November 2004. Up until the end of TBC, I played a 70 warlock, 70 mage, 70 warrior, 70 priest, 70 rogue and yes, 70 druid. Since Wrath, I've been playing my 80 DK and 80 Shaman on another server.

I was considering leveling another druid on my new server if these changes were interesting, but they're not. They have the same problems that exist now: homogenization. Sure, it's to a lesser extent because of the colors of the textures but yeah, the whole point to the game (if there is one) is to kill internet dragons to collect gear to kill internet dragons to collect gear.

Other characters get to evolve over time. From tattered rags at level 6 to fiery lava shoulder pads at level 80. But druids? They look the same at level 10 as they do at level 80 when they're doing their job.

On a personal note, I just don't *like* some of their forms. Tree of Life is horrible.

      When you're expecting this:

      And get this:

I don't know how you can not be disappointed. The "Tree of Life" looks like a dead tree to me. And don't get me started on Moonkin. It looks ridiculous. Sure, they may "update" them (something that won't fix the problem about evolving looks through gear that other classes get to do) but they'll still be a tree and an owl. :(

The shoulders perhaps, but not much of anything else. Not like the casters robes have had crazy make overs to look super awesome or anything, so adding the shadow texture really takes what little creativity was placed on the robe away.

That leaves our helm and shoulders. Score.

having your form adjust based on the talent points you've selected - only in the feral tree, IMO - would be quite an interesting way to do it.
Granted, you'd probably look the same from level 60 to level 80, but it'd still be a way to add a little more uniqueness

I think moonkin form looks awesome :( I just think they should show some of your gear. At the very least, they should show your weapon.

The ultimate update would have been allowing armor to show on the forms, even if it was limited to the helm, shoulders, etc. In Blizzards defense though I imagine that they cry a river when they have to tweak armor to fit a Tauren. As is they have been recycling armor graphics an incredible amount.

When I first read the update it sounded like they did nothing but increase the poly count on the existing model, add some bear bling and redo the texture. If I'm reading it correctly now, each form will have five different designs "?models?", then the texture color will match your characters hair color/style for NE's and the fur color for Taurens.

I think I saw a blue post where they plan to look into making your equipment affect the form in some way later on, but for now, they're just doing the reskins.
