    (5M US, 1.94M UK, 2M Japan)
  2. Wii Fit (Wii / Nintendo) - 8.31M
    (4.55M US, 1.61M UK, 2.15M Japan)
  3. Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3, 360 / Rockstar North) - 7.29M
    (5.18M US, 1.85M UK, 256K Japan)
  4. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii / Nintendo) - 6.31M
    (4.17M US, 404K UK, 1.75M Japan)
  5. Call of Duty: World at War
    (PS2, PS3, 360, Wii, DS / Treyarch, Rebellion, n-Space) - 5.89M
    (4.46M US, 1.43M UK, 0 Japan)

Combined, the US, UK and Japanese console software market grew 11% in 2008, selling 409.9 million units over 2007's 367.7 million. The United States was responsible for more than 268.4 million--65%--of the 409.9 million units sold during 2008.

Total UK and Japanese sales figures were not provided.

Overall, the US market grew 15%, the UK's grew 26%, and Japan saw a 13% decline due to shrinking PS2 sales, down 46% over last year, and lower portable sales.

To further break down the growth of software, US sales grew 22% in home consoles and 2% in portables, while the UK saw a 30% boost in home console software and a 6% jump in the portable arena.

Does Mario Kart Wii even count, since people are just buying it for the controller?

    joke

Whats weird is that its such a big selling game, yet I don't know anyone who has it (everyone I know does have a Wii) and theres been little to no talk of the game on the shack. Is it any good? I always loved MK but I for some reason didn't pick it up. I think maybe its time I did.

if you like the past mario kart games you will like this one. I didnt care for double dash but this one seems to have redeemed itself. My favorite is the maps from past games, they even have the old balloon battle maps that i used to play on snes when i was a kid. The wheel controller sucks though, i prefer using the nun chuck and wiimote.

I agree with shadebane completely. My girlfriend likes to use the steering wheel as she says its more fun, but she knows its not nearly as good as just the remotes.

I do like the game alot though.

Sorry guys =P Gamecube controller is the way to go! I must say though, as a mario kart fanatic, this iteration seems TOTALLY unbalanced. Way more so than previous games. You can go through an entire race and not make a single mistake, get hit some some crap at the very end and finish in 12th. Granted, that would happen in the past Mario Karts, but something about this version seems grossly unfair.

This is also true. The part about the game being "cheap". But I can still enjoy the game, even moreso online!

this is way more apparent when playing against the AI, which is a waste of time. the AI won't let you break away far enough in this version of the game to be able to absorb those hits. that being said, they don't let you win the 150cc and mirror cups without cheating their asses off. after you get your star on every cup, theres no reason to be racing the AI anymore...

              kart online is kickass...

yeah i hate that shit as well, it does seem like that always happens. Final stretch to finish in 1st, blue shelled, red shelled the an invincible star kart hits you, just as you start moving bowser comes by and hits you into the lava.

I used to love mario kart games, played this one at walmart and loved it. It's basically the same thing with more levels and karts.

I've had every iteration of Mario Kart since the very first one and I think this one is great. 12 player Mario Kart races online are just damn fun. Definitely one of the better online games in general.

Well first off, you don't get a controller. You get a circular piece of plastic that the Wii Remote sits into.

I play it fairly regularly and IMO the wheel is the worst part of the game. I don't see how anyone uses it and it makes the game harder, not easier. The controls are much easier with the Wii Remote. Most of the people I know feel the same way.

nobody bought this for the $3 piece of plastic that looks like a steering wheel....

actually, i don't even know anyone that even used it more than once then they steer anyway...
