PS3 Firmware v2.52 Released

14
A new PlayStation 3 firmware update has arrived, bringing the system up to v2.52.

The update improves the "playback quality of some PS3 format software" and resolves "a text entry issue that occurs when using the on-screen keyboard, USB keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard with some PS3 format software," PlayStation Network operations director Eric Lempel wrote on the official PlayStation.Blog.

As with all previous PlayStation 3 updates, the new firmware, which can be downloaded for free from the system itself, must be installed before users can connect to the PlayStation Network for online multiplayer and shopping.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

if your using wireless that's probably your problem. I switched from wireless to wired and stuff actually downloads fast.

Dont think its the wireless, I can stream video with it fine (shows 1meg/sec on my router). Its just the playstation network, its painfully slow in the UK.

XBL can nearly max me out at 1,900Kb/sec while PSN just hovers at 127Kb/sec

He's right it took like 20+minutes for me to update last night. It is wireless, but previous updates would take like 5-10minutes from start to finish. This update took well over 20 to download and then actually start to install.

Steam was going fine at 500k and a had a d/l of ultimate boot disk going at 200k too

I'm on wired, and it took me 20 mins. I think there is a cap on Sony's end because other games downloads are slow (demos).

Took me about 5 minutes total. That's definitely an exaggeration. Notice no difference but oh well whatever.
