Audigy 2 / 2 ZS Beta Driver Released

12

Creative Labs sends along a beta Audigy 2 / Audigy 2 ZS driver, which adds full OpenAL / EAX ADVANCED HD support, improving performance for OpenAL games and enabling EAX 4.0 for DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil. You'll need Windows XP SP 2 or Windows 2000 SP 4 to use this unsupported driver release.

Creatives driver team is a joke. It must be like having a job clubbing seals.
You're only allowed to release drivers for your latest products, even though it's the same hardware as your 4+ year old soundcards. Then you have the balls to call the only driver release in over 2 years a fucking BETA release?

I wonder if this allows for EAX for the original Doom 3, you know the game that I bought a 7:1 system for that never worked surround sound-wise?

Surround sound worked fine for me in Doom 3 with my audigy 2. Just had to set it up to 6.1 and hook up the speakers correctly.

Playing devils advocate here, but why release new drivers if there are no significant problems with the current version.

Philips, for instance, hasnt released a new driver for the Acoustic Edge card since 2002. I bought the Acoustic Edge to replace an SBLive, simply because of all the crap Creative installed with its drivers.

But now that crap is gone from the Creative drivers. Today's Creative drivers are a Godsend compared to what they were 3 years ago.

Same hardware as 4 year old sound cards? Audigy 2 is only 2 years old, not 4, but yeah, kinda getting long in the tooth. Hopefully we will see something fresh from Creative soon.

I'd rather see something fresh from someone else. I hate how Creative monopolizes the game market.
