This is one that is gonna freak out a few people. The folks at AOL-TimeWarner are currently in talks with the folks at RedHat Linux about a possible buyout. Imagine that, Linux... brought to you by AOL. See articles here and here and I imagine it's elsewhere too.

The Red Hat negotiations which are still fluid are the latest indication that AOL Time Warner, the world's largest media company, is looking for alternatives to software made by Microsoft, whose Windows operating system runs 90 percent of the world's PCs

The obvious speculation being that AOL would try to work with the Redhat guys to spitshine linux in to a more non-hax0r friendly desktop OS. It's certainly possible given what the Apple folks have done with the BSD kernel and OSX. Hmmmmmm.....
