Biden signs executive order for new AI safety standards

With the pace at which artificial intelligence has been growing as of late, there have been calls for lawmakers to take action to protect citizens from the several safety concerns that the technology poses to society. In a major move, United States President Joe Biden has signed an executive order to require better safety standards for the development and implementation of artificial intelligence in the country.

Biden’s AI executive order was announced in a press release from the White House. With the order, the Biden administration hopes to set a "new standard for AI safety and security, protects Americans’ privacy, advances equity and civil rights, stands up for consumers and workers, promotes innovation and competition, advances American leadership around the world, and more.” The White House provided the following bullet points that outline its plans:
