For the September 2023 Nintendo Direct, the company’s “one more thing” was a nostalgic reveal for fans of the GameCube era. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is getting a remaster in 2024, bringing enhanced visuals to the RPG for a Nintendo Switch release.

The new trailer for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door showed off the game’s improved visuals, bringing it more in line with the latest entry in the Paper Mario series, The Origami King. Originally released in 2004 for the Nintendo GameCube, The Thousand-Year Door is the second of six games in the spin-off series, but remains a fan favorite. Fans had long clamored for a more convenient way to access the RPG on modern consoles.

In the trailer, we get a look at various locations, puzzles, and characters from the 2005 game. It looks like a 1:1 remake of the original games, with a lot of its easter eggs, jokes, and references still intact. We’re also treated to several songs from the game’s beloved original soundtrack.

Fans of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will get to re-experience all its joys when it arrives on the Switch in 2024. It’s not the only beloved Mario spin-off getting new life on the hybrid console, as we’re roughly two months away from the release of the Super Mario RPG remake. Nintendo also revealed a revival of the Mario vs Donkey Kong series. For all your Nintendo news, stick with Shacknews.
