Remedy Entertainment is most known today for its work on games like Control and Quantum Break, but will soon be returning to Max Payne, the series that first put it on the map in the early 2000s. Remedy has announced that it’s partnered with Rockstar Games to remake Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.

Remedy Entertainment announced its partnership with Rockstar Games and the upcoming Max Payne remakes in a post to its official website on April 6. The remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2 will be made using the same engine that powers Control. Remedy Entertainment developed the original two Max Payne games, which were published by Rockstar Games. The two companies have partnered for the upcoming remakes, which will be unified as a single title.

“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

The games are currently in the conceptual phase of development, and Remedy Entertainment assures that the Max Payne remakes will be a AAA production on the same level as its marquee titles.

“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala. “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”

The news of Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes will surely excite fans of the series. As a pair of games that revolutionized gunplay in games, we look forward for hearing more about the new Max Payne games in the future.

this has been my #1 desired game(s) for remake for a long time.

next-gen graphics with dlss and rtx, keep the integrity of the noir story and bullet-time action intact.

Remedy is great and all but I'm going to be nervous about a remake with Rockstar even being tangentially close-by.

Those dream sequences could definitely use a total rework. Native widescreen and ultrawide will be nice, too.

Oof, yeah. With Rockstar owning the IP it will likely be exclusive there.

Yes and I don't mind that as much. So long as I don't have to purchase and download off Rockstar.

They farmed that crap out to a mobile port studio. Remedy being involved here gives this one a ton more potential, especially since they're using the Control engine for it.

Are they going to remake them or are they going to contract someone out who isn't going to realistically be able to finish it on a 300.00 budget.

i look forward to them slapping AI-generated textures at a higher resolution on everything and calling it a day while everything looks like it was run through an autoclave and melted together.

Max Payne was an amazing game due to the technical barriers it broke during its time. Curious how a remake would hold up these days.

Max Payne 3 was much better than I expected it to be, loved that game. Surprised we're seeing a reboot of these honestly, thought it didn't sell well.
