At the Made by Google 2019 event today, Google announced the next step in its home wifi initiatives, introducing the Nest Wifi router and Nest Wifi point.
Anyone living in a large home spread across multiple levels knows what it’s like to have spotty wifi, or maybe that’s just me. Either way, a solid wifi solution is always at the top of my list. I’ve got the Ethernet jacks throughout my home, but the wifi coverage isn’t great. With its new Nest Wifi router and Nest Wifi point, Google aims to solve that problem for its customers.
During the Made by Google 2019 presentation, the presenter claimed that the Nest Wifi router and Nest Wifi point would provide double the speed and up to 25 percent expanded coverage. It’s important to note, though, that Google’s claim that they can provide complete wifi coverage to about 85 percent of the homes in the U.S. is based on using both one Nest Wifi router and one Nest Wifi point.
Google’s final sell on the Nest Wifi router and Nest Wifi point is that they aren’t ugly, like most modems and routers that get stuffed into cupboards or closets to keep the home looking snazzy. Google has made sure its devices look aesthetically pleasing so that users can keep them in the open where they won’t be losing signal strength the way hidden devices might.
The Nest Wifi will come in a two pack or three pack. The two pack will start at $269 USD, while the three pack will start at $349 USD. Pre-orders are open as of today, and the Nest Wifi will be available in eight countries starting on November 4, 2019.
