Can you play with AI teammates in Ghost Recon Breakpoint?

Published , by Bill Lavoy

Players loading into Ghost Recon Breakpoint without a co-op squad of friends to play with might find that it’s a bit lonely. Back in Ghost Recon Wildlands, players were given three AI teammates to roll with and live out that spec ops fantasy. In Ghost Recon Breakpoint, however, those AI teammates are missing when players first head out.

Can you play with AI teammates?

As of launch, there is no way to play with AI teammates in Ghost Recon Breakpoint. If players don’t have friends to join for a co-op session, or don’t want to play with other random players, they must go it alone. This decision was met with backlash when Ubisoft Paris first announced it, and the developer has stated they will be bringing AI teammates back to the game for solo players to utilize. Unfortunately, the timeline for AI teammates making their way into Breakpoint is sketchy, with Ubisoft stating in a blog post, “We’re still working on the AI Teammate implementation, and we’ll have more to share with you later in Year 1. Keep an eye out for updates along the way!”

Year 1 is quite the large window to implement a feature that came at launch in Ghost Recon Wildlands a couple years ago. It’s hard to imagine what the thinking was here. Many players either don’t have three other friends playing the same game to join or have no interested in playing with other people. I sunk about 100 hours into Ghost Recon Wildlands solo and working with my AI teammates was a lot of fun.

Once AI teammates are implemented for solo players in Ghost Recon Breakpoint, utilizing them should be automatic. This means that when you head out into the world as a solo player, three AI teammates should just load in and follow you as they did in Wildlands. If that’s not the case, we’ll update this guide when the time comes.

Since you can’t currently roll out with AI teammates, you’re going to need better weapons and gear. Try the Tac 50 blueprint for a capable long-range option, or the AK47 blueprint for something more up close and personal.
