How to beat Angler Fish - Link's Awakening

Published , by Ozzie Mejia

There's a light at the end of the Angler's Tunnel in Link's Awakening, but the Angler Fish stands between you and the end of the fourth dungeon. This boss battle is where things start to get a little bit different, but fear not. Shacknews is here to offer newcomers and novices some information on the Angler Fish and how to make sushi out of this undersea fiend.

How to beat the Angler Fish - Link's Awakening

This fight against the Angler Fish is a little bit different than the standard boss battle. This takes place entirely in 2D and underwater, with Link using the aid of his new Flippers to swim.

The Angler Fish will charge at you and crash into the walls, so make sure to stay above him. His weak spot is the light over his head, so use downward swipes with your sword to slash away. When the Angler Fish crashes into the wall, pieces of ceiling will come down, so be sure to swim away from the debris and just let it fall. The Angler Fish can fall to the ground unmoving after a few strikes, but it's not worth it to try and navigate through falling debris to strike at him. If you can, that's great, but patience is a factor in this battle. He'll go down soon enough, so don't get careless.

If the Angler Fish lets out a shout, it means he's calling reinforcements. Mini-Angler Fish will come out of the background, but they'll present a minimal threat. Take the mini fish out with a single sword strike and keep focusing on the big guy.

You'll see the Angler Fish call in more and more reinforcements, but that only means his defeat is at hand. Keep on hitting him and he'll be your catch of the day.

You've now completed the Angler's Tunnel and now you know how to swim! Your adventure is halfway over, but there's still much more to find out there.
