Pokemon Go gets Gen 5 Pokemon today

The world of Pokemon Go has become even bigger thanks to the discovery of Gen 5 Pokemon.

1

Originating from the Unova region, Gen 5 Pokemon can now be found throughout the world in Pokemon Go. These Pokemon made their debut in both Pokemon Black and Pokemon White, and they’ll begin appearing in raids, hatching from eggs, and spawning out in the world starting today, September 16. While there's plenty of new Pokemon to catch, some of them will only be available in raid battles and certain areas of the world.

Curious to know exactly which Pokemon have been confirmed to appear in the wild with the newest update? Here’s a list of all the Gen 5 Pokemon confirmed to spawn in the wild: Pidove, Blitzle, Patrat, Purrloin, Lillipup, Tepig, Snivy. It also looks like Patrat and Lillipup can both appear in their shiny form, too. Unfortunately, this update also brings some region-specific Pokemon, which means you’ll need to do a bit of work if you want to catch all of the newest Pokemon joining the roster. We’ve broken down the regions and their respective Pokemon below:

  • Heatmor – only found in the western hemisphere.
  • Panpour – only found in the Americas and Greenland.
  • Durant – only found in the eastern hemisphere.
  • Pansear – can only be caught in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India.
  • Pansage – only catchable in Asia-Pacific.

As you can see, there are still plenty of non-region specific Pokemon to catch, and you can check out the new trailer for the update above to get a look at some of the Pokemon joining the world today. Gen 5 Pokemon aren’t the only new thing to make their way into the game, though. Just a few weeks ago Jirachi joined the Go roster as a reward for completing special objectives. We’ll continue to keep an eye on any future updates, so make sure you keep your eyes glued to our Pokemon Go hub for all the latest info and patch news.
