Black Desert Online has expanded quite a bit since the game’s original western launch a few years ago and it only continues to grow. This year, during Gamescom 2019, we sat down with one of the producers on Black Desert (the console version of the game) to talk about the PlayStation 4 version, where it stands compared to the Xbox One version and even discussed whether crossplay was something we’d see in the future or not.

When talking about Black Desert Online, it’s important to keep in mind the sheer amount of content available in the game. Taking this amount of content, plus the fantastic visuals available and bringing them to console is no easy feat. According to the game's producer, Kwangsam Kim, the content available on PlayStation 4 initially will be a bit smaller than that normally found in the game.

This is in part to help make sure that the game is as optimized as possible, without the developers biting off more than they can handle, and also to help give PlayStation 4 users a good place to start without being completely overwhelmed. If you’ve been keeping your eye on the PS4 version of Black Desert, then you’ll be pleased to know that the developers at Pearl Abyss are constantly working to make the game run smoother and to bring more content to the PS4 version. While it isn’t yet completely on par with the Xbox One version, it will continue to grow and expand as they added new content.

We also spoke with Kwangsam Kim about the future of crossplay across Xbox One and PlayStation 4. While he didn’t rule out the notion forever, he did make it clear that both platforms are on completely different versions. However, should they get them to the same version and the same content one day, they’re definitely interested in looking into crossplay and helping bring the two consoles together.
