Doom Eternal gets new extended Battlemode gameplay trailer

A new gameplay trailer from id Software details the new Battlemode 2-v-1 gamemode in Doom Eternal.

Doom Eternal is shaping up to offer quite the multiplayer experience. Developed in-house at id Software, the new Battlemode 2-v-1 multiplayer mode is looking to be an intense and ferocious affair that holds everything you'd expect from a Doom game. Today, id Software released a brand-new gameplay trailer that goes over the new mode's playable characters, goals, and more.

We already saw some details shared about Battlemode back at QuakeCon 2019, however, id Software has released a new video to dig deeper into the new mode. Featuring the same frenetic gameplay that has made the Doom series such a popular franchise over the years, Battlemode features a unique 2-v-1 approach that only id Software could pull off. In the new gamemode, two players take on the role of the series' iconic demons, while one player works to defeat the demons as the Doom Slayer.

According to the new overview, players will be able to take on the role of one of five demons, including the Revenant, Pain Elemental, and the Mancubus. All five of the demons that players can take control of have their own special abilities and mobility options, as well as the ability to drop various hazards throughout the map that will deal damage to the Slayer. It's all about working together to bring the Slayer down through whatever means you have at your disposal.

On the other end of things, the player taking the role of the Slayer will need to work with all of their weapons items to take down the demons and defeat any dangers that they bring into the arena with them. With all of the Slayer's iconic weapons at your disposal, Battlemode appears to offer the same frantic and fast-paced action that makes the singleplayer campaign so enjoyable.

You can check out the full overview for Doom Eternal's Battlemode in the video above. We'll have more info about the upcoming game as it's revealed.

That UI... makes it look like a cheap mobile game or something.

They said it is customizable and be tuned down but I agree, it looks really bad

I'm actually ok with this, my bigger problem is that Quake Champions should be picking up Doom's slack for multiplayer.

Unfortunately there's the problem where its super fun but it also has much longer times between matches than it should, especially in a time when Battle Royale games have set new expectations for how fast you're back in a game.

This looks pretty interesting but I wonder...

      BATTLEMODE

...if they will consider toning down the on-screen...

      BATTLEMODE

      ...HUD. It's quite in-your-face...

      BATTLEMODE

...and reminds me a bit of Overwatch. Still cool to...

      BATTLEMODE

...see another type of mode introduced in...

      BATTLEMODE

      ...Doom. Excited either way.

Yeah I thought those frequent, prolonged cuts to the logo was super weird.

Interesting idea, the 2v1 makes it maybe a little less prone to that thing in L4D where you just get annihilated if all four players on the other team are working together.

I'm convinced there'll be an endless string of cheese strats that engulf the meta like in every other asymmetrical multiplayer game. It'll be fun for about a week after launch until the first of these is discovered and, after that, fun only with friends.

you'd think they would have learned their lesson from last time... nobody gives a shit about their MP.

it's a testament to how good the SP was in nuDoom that their emphasis on the abysmal MP didn't tank the whole fucking thing.

In their defence it was probably Bethesda's emphasis on mp. Plus I think that their focus on just the one mode instead of ticking all the usual DM / TDM / CP boxes is encouraging.

Don't like the GUI, but I play it. I kind of miss original / novelty multiplayer modes in games. I always enjoyed dabbing around in them for extra value even if they don't have the most longevity. And sometimes the modes turn out real good.

This. Games have not tried every possible game mode under the sun. Not even close. I love the idea of an established AAA game company trying something new. You never know what will take off. And even if it doesn’t, it’s still fun added value.

I mean Battle Royale didn’t exist until simeone did it (PUBG?). Turned out to be great. And now it’s everywhere.

I’m convinced there are more fun game mode ideas out there that no one’s thought of yet.

Splinter Cell Pandora MP was a real good one that O wouldn’t have thought to work so well.
