Anyone who grew up in the 80s or 90s fondly remembers their Transformer toys. The robots would shift and change from one form into another. It was always so fascinating seeing how the toys perfectly collapse in on themselves to form something entirely different. Well Hasbro is recapturing the magic of Transformers with their 2019 lineup. Shacknews had the pleasure of looking over what’s on offer this year, and suffice it to say, we’re excited.
We got to speak with John Warden, Designer Manager at Hasbro, all about Transformers and what’s on offer in their 2019 line-up. First of all, we’ve never been more excited about Transformers. It’s as if Hasbro has reached into the 80s and brought Transformers to the future.
All the designs just scream nostalgia. First of all, we got to see Soundblaster in a special all-black styling. Fans of the Japanese animation series will know about this one, who is a reincarnation of Soundwave. Much like the Soundblaster from the 80s, this version has a little slot for a cassette tape. There’s also a special attention to detail with the figure, as it looks worn and battle-damaged.
Probably the most incredible Transformer on display was Refraktor. Taking on the appearance of a film camera from the 80s, this Transformer is actually three-in-one. Each Transformer has some part of the lens in their armory. One utilizes it as a shield while another might have it as shoulder armor.
Refraktor also includes a Kremzeek. This can be placed on top of the camera as if it was being taken over, or used as a blast from a weapon. Speaking of weapons, each gun, when in camera mode, actually comes together to form the tripod on which the camera sits. Refraktor would make a great addition to any collection.
