It's been a fun-filled weekend in New York as Epic Games hit the Big Apple for the Fortnite World Cup. While the top Fortnite players in the world competed for prize pools most esports competitors could only dream of, Epic already has its sights set for the future. What's next is apparently a much bigger competitive circuit in the form of the Fortnite Championship Series.
"Once Season 9 wraps up and we move into our next season, we will be debuting the Fortnite Championship Series," caster Sundown told the Fortnite World Cup audience. "This will give players a chance to compete against the best of the best, where every single result matters, with a leaderboard to track results over the course of the season. Follow your favorite players on their quest to become the first season champions, with millions of dollars at stake."
Details on the Fortnite Championship Series are light at the moment, but look for more information on this to come in the days ahead. One thing to note is that Sundown did make mention of Epic's focus on Fortnite's competitive element and adds that more will be coming soon.
In the meantime, the Fortnite World Cup continues over in New York, with the Solo finals set to conclude today. As of this story's post, Kyle "Bugha" Giersdorf leads the pack with one Victory Royale and 11 eliminations. On Saturday, Emil "Nyhrox" Bergquist and David "Aqua" Wang" took the Duos finals to take home $1.5 million.
