Aqua and Nyhrox win the Fortnite Duos World Cup

The young pros lead the standings to become the first ever duos world champions.

Day two of the Fortnite World Cup centered entirely around the duos competition. Over the last several months, players from around the globe have had the opportunity to queue into a series of qualifier matches to prove they have what it takes to be the greatest of them all. After several rounds of intense competition, the top 50 duos met at Arthur Ashe Stadium to play for the glorious World Cup trophies. Each major region was well represented. Players from North America, Europe, Asia, and the Oceanic region participated in the tournament.

A total of six games were played to determine what team would be taking home the grand prize of $3,000,000 dollars. The rewards didn’t stop there, even the duos that didn’t come out on top received quite the consolation prize. Another $7,000,000 was divided up among the lower placing teams. In fact, even the bottom 40 teams that couldn’t manage to crack the top 10 walked away with $100k. The games were scored the same way all competitive Fortnite games are. This means that teams not only earned points for winning games, but for eliminations and for match placements. Because of this, the pros were in close contention for the number one spot until the very end.

After the first few games, Zayt and Saf held a solid lead with 38 points to their names. Thanks to winning the first match and racking up 16 eliminations along the way, they were the clear favorites going into the second set of games. However, The Fortnite World Cup Duos Finals told a tale of two halves as an unlikely pair shot to the top of the rankings in the following games. Representing Cooler Esport and the EU region, Aqua and Nyhrox scored back to back victory royales in order to skyrocket themselves to the number one team in the standings and secure first place.

In a tournament with this level of talent and skill, it’s nearly impossible to understate the achievement of Aqua and Nyrhox. To win just one game of this caliber is quite an accomplishment, but to do it twice in a row is something to truly marvel at. For more Fortnite World Cup coverage, keep it locked to Shacknews.
