In the golden era of arcades, Namco was one of the most prominent and iconic companies around. Even to this day franchises like Pac-Man and Dig-Dug are still well known and celebrated. But it can be hard to find an arcade nowadays, let alone one that’s going to have more obscure classics. Fortunately for retro gamers everywhere My Arcade’s Namco Museum Micro Player just hit the market with an impressive catalog of titles for gamers of all ages to enjoy.
The Namco Museum Micro Player retails for $99.99 MSRP and is designed to look like a classic arcade. It features a 4.25″ full-color screen, dual forward-facing speakers, a glowing coin trap as well a light-up marquee, a removable joystick for those who prefer to play with a D-pad, and a hefty catalog of 20 classic Bandai Namco games.
The full list of games includes: Battle City, Dig Dug, Dig Dug II, Dragon Spirit, Galaga, Galaxian, Mappy, Pac-Panic, Pac-Man, Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures, Pac-Mania, Phelios, Rolling Thunder, Rolling Thunder 2, Rolling Thunder 3, Sky Kid, Splatterhouse, Splatterhouse 2, Tower of Druaga, and Xevious.
I’ve actually had a fair amount of hands-on time with the Namco Museum Micro Player and I think it’s great. These are solid ports of the arcade versions of these games, which can be super hard to come by. In particular, I was stoked to see quality versions of the Splatterhouse franchise, Dragon Spirit, and Rolling Thunder ported. The only game that’s not arcade accurate is Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures, and that’s because it was originally a Sega Genesis title, which makes it an interesting choice to include.
