Published , by Greg Burke

With the launch of Super Mario Maker 2 a few weeks ago and the continued popularity of Minecraft, we thought it would be cool to count down the top 10 creative games of all-time. We reached out to our staff and community on Twitter as well as our Chatty forum for votes. Please take a look at the video to find out which creative game took our top spot.

For more great videos, including developer interviews and convention coverage for events like E3 or PAX, be sure to check out both Shacknewsand GamerHub.tv over on YouTube.

Want to read the list instead? Hit next page to see our text version of the top 10 creative video games. The price of reading instead of watching will be additional pageviews. Pray we don't alter the deal any further.

#10 - Disney's Coaster

This classic creative game tasked players with building a roller coaster. That's it. It was a pretty minimal experience and reasonably easy to pick up and play.

#9 - RPG Maker (Series)

Taking inspiration from NES, SNES, and Genesis RPGs, RPG Maker gives players the tools to make a great classic roleplaying game. The depth of options may be daunting for new players, but RPG Maker opens the door to a whole awesome world of creativity.

#8 - Besiege

Besiege tasks players with creating their very own machines of war. Huge catapults, heavy cannons, and all sorts of weapons can come together in massive death machines that players get to experiment with in the game. It is a creative and destructive experience, which makes it even more fun for players who like seeing stuff explode.

#7 - Astroneer

Astroneer is one of the best creative games to launch in recent years. Players can gather all sorts of crafting materials, explore planets, and focus on fun instead of worrying about enemies. It is a relaxing time and a game that every Shacker should try out.

#6 - Project Spark

Project Spark was a very cool experiment by Xbox. Players could create all sorts of games and even games within games. Project Spark was ahead of its time in a lot of ways, and was unceremoniously shut down by Microsoft. We still remember our time with the game fondly, and hope Xbox hasn't given up on the vision of Project Spark.

#5 - Disney Infinity

Another shuttered game makes our top 10 list. Disney Infinity let players experiment with all sorts of Disney characters and was super accessible. It is unfortunate that the company bet too big on the toys-to-life part of the game, as the actual gameplay was great and it would have been fun to see where the game would have gone with support from Disney.

#4 - Garry's Mod

This mod became so popular on Steam that it is now a separate game. This might be one of the most fun and creative PC games ever created as players can input all sorts of assets from games all over the universe. It is a game that people keep coming back to due to its amazing toolset for modders.

#3 - Super Mario Maker (series)

The Super Mario Maker series definitely deserves a top spot on our list. Super Mario Maker 2 mania is currently sweeping the nation on Nintendo Switch, with over 2 million levels already created by players. It is infinite Mario, and Shackers are still exchanging levels everyday on our Chatty forum.

#2 - Little Big Planet (series)

Media Molecule's Dreams may release later this year, but their original Little Big Planet series remains one of the best creative games ever made. The PlayStation exclusive gives players the ability to make good platforming experiences like classic Mario games. There is such a vast variety of tools in LBP, that the things created by players continue to stun and amaze me.

#1 - Minecraft

Life is tough on Struggle Bus Mountain, but Minecraft gives players the ability to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. Minecraft is the best creative game ever released, and players continue to create amazing things with the simple gameplay mechanics.

Which creative video game did you think should have been included in this list? Are Mario's elbows too pointy in Super Mario Maker 2? Let us know your thoughts in the Chatty below.
