Summer Games Done Quick 2019: Day 3 schedule

Published , by Ozzie Mejia

It's that time of year again, where the runners at Games Done Quick once again gather together. Summer Games Done Quick has begun, returning for seven days of speedrunning action. The world's top runners are playing through and breaking some of the best games of the past and present, all while raising money for charity.

Summer Games Done Quick comes to you from Bloomington, MN. This year's event will raise money for Doctors Without Borders. Already the runners have raised over $275,000 for charity and there are still five more days remaining. Shacknews is here with a handful of noteworthy runs from throughout the week that should not be missed, but first, here's a highlight from Day 2.

10:41AM - The Punch-Out block

Punch-Out games are already a lot of fun to check out on their own. Getting through them takes an intense amount of pattern memorization and quick reflexes. They're certainly not easy, especially in the later fights.

But zallard1 is a special case when it comes to Punch-Out runs. Yes, he's the gentleman that plays through Punch-Out games blindfolded. And there is a donation incentive where if enough money is raised, he'll attempt to run through these games blindfolded. We've seen zallard1 perform this feat with the NES and SNES Punch-Out games, but this would be one of the first times that he attempts to run through the oldest Punch-Out game and the newest Punch-Out game without looking. And that could become one of the most intense runs of the week.

5:14PM - The Legend of Zelda Randomizer

Randomizer runs have been one of the coolest recent trends at Games Done Quick, most often seen with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. And yes, that's coming later in the week. But the NES original Legend of Zelda hasn't been such a common sight among randomizer games. That's about to change on Tuesday evening, as JamEvil and fcoughlin look to race to the finish. RNG will play a role in who wins here, but a lot of skill will also play into whether these players can blaze through this game with whatever items they might have.

7:21PM - Super Mario Sunshine

Super Mario Sunshine has rapidly become a Games Done Quick staple. The speedrunning crowd loves this stepchild of the 3D Mario games. And it's certainly fun to watch, especially when two runners look to race to the end. It's an Any% race, so it'll be interesting to see what the quickest path to victory is and if you've never seen one of these races, you're in for a treat to help end Tuesday night.

Summer Games Done Quick 2019 will take place from now through Saturday, June 29. For more, check out the Games Done Quick website and be sure to watch all of the action from Twitch.
