Another legend of the PC gaming scene is slated to make its way to home consoles. Torchlight 2, the dungeon-crawling RPG that originally released from Runic Games in 2012, is heading to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Developed under the care of Panic Button in collaboration with Perfect World Entertainment, Torchlight 2 hits home consoles on September 3.

We have little doubt that PC gamers are already well aware of Torchlight 2. For everyone else, however, it might not be immediately familiar. No worry: A press release for this announcement provides a nice summary of the game as well as the features that are new to the Torchlight 2 console release:

"Torchlight II invites adventurers to Vilderan, a sprawling continent filled with monsters and adventure at every turn. Like the original Torchlight game, the sequel sets itself apart from other action RPGs with a charming art style, frantic combat, signature pet system and deep character customization. The console version retains these signature mechanics while adding enhanced controls, an improved targeting system and a new interface designed specifically with console gamers in mind. Players will also discover updated achievements and trophies to earn through gameplay, plus brand new pets making their debut exclusively on console. In addition, Nintendo Switch users will have the opportunity to play Torchlight II with their friends via wireless play, allowing up to four players to connect multiple Nintendo Switch consoles together via a local wireless connection."

The crew at Panic Button Games have done their homework with the new release, with Technical Director Andy Boggs saying "Our team has been working hard on the console version to make sure that the combat feels just as fun and satisfying as it did on PC.” As for specifics, the developers intend to release more information as the game edges closer to its release date over on the official Torchlight 2 website. Watch for its release later this year on September 3, and stay on top of other launch dates by stopping by Shacknews' 2019 video game release date schedule.
