Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 interview at E3 2019

Published , by Chris Jarrard

The Xbox Team hit a home run back in 2015 with the release for the original Xbox One Elite Controller. For the first time ever, a console manufacturer attempted to build an input device without compromise and delivered a premium experience for those who were willing to pay a premium. Fast forward to 2019 and the Xbox Hardware wizards are preparing to release the Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 this November. We got the opportunity to chat with one of the Series 2 designers, Elliott Hsu, about how the project came to fruition and what makes the new controller special.

Hsu speaks about how development on the original Elite Controller led to the genesis of the Xbox Adaptive Controller (a Shacknews Best Hardware of 2018 Award Winner) and the lesson learned from the work completed for that project.

As far as the Series 2 controller, players can look forward to its extensive rubber coating on the front and back side of the grips, replaceable stick covers and the ability to store up to three separate configuration profiles. Shooter enthusiast will find lots to like with the new adjustable trigger action. User can set the trigger actuation to one of three positions, allowing for ease of rapid fire scenarios when the action gets intense.

The Xbox Elite Series 2 also comes with a built-in rechargeable battery that the Xbox Team promises will last up to 40 hours between fill ups. The package also comes with a premium carrying case that will accommodate the controller and it various accessories. Additionally, the carrying case has an opening to allow a USB cable to plug in a recharge the controller while it is closed.
