Contra Rogue Corps gets September release date at E3 2019

Nintendo took the torch at E3 today to show off several new titles coming to the gaming consoles. One of the most exciting announcements for platformer fans was the announcement of Contra Rogue Corps, a new Contra game that will arrive on Nintendo Switch this fall.

Contra Rogue Corps is set to release on September 24, 2019 and the new game looks to bring all of the hardcore action of the original series to the Nintendo Switch in a brand-new package. Nintendo showed off a quick trailer of the action, giving players their first glimpse of gameplay as well. Rogue Corps looks to take the series out of its traditional side-scroller format. Instead, Contra Rogue Corps will take place with an isometric top-down perspective, similar to what we’ve seen in Super C and Contra 3: The Alien Wars.

The original Contra released in arcades way back in 1987, and it has stood the test of time as one of Konami’s most known franchises, with the company even setting out to revive it recently with remasters of the original games. We’ve seen quite a few ports over the years, including the recent Contra Anniversary Collection, which was also announced as being available for the Nintendo Switch right now.

Based off the trailer, it looks like players will be able to play as classic characters, as well as brand-new Contra characters including a massive panda bear, a mutated bug, and more. According to the reveal, Contra Rogue Corps will also include single-player and multiplayer modes, allowing players to team up with up to four of their friends.

We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information about Contra Rogue Corps. For now, head back over to our E3 2019 hub for even more sweet news out of the show. You can also follow Shacknews on Twitter to keep up with constant updates on all the latest announcements and more.
