E3 2019: Gears 5 Escape has a map builder

Design your own Escape maps in Gears 5 with the map builder.

Announced during the E3 2019 Inside Xbox event was the Gears 5 Escape map builder. The fun and thrill of designing this new Gears game mode isn’t just for developers, as players can now dive in and make their own mad creations.

It was revealed during Inside Xbox that as the team at The Coalition were designing the maps, they realized they were simply placing tiles down. From there, it was a simple logical step to give this feature to the players so that they can start creating their own versions of this intense mode.

Though there is a caveat to the whole creative process. Much like Super Mario Maker 2, you can’t just make the hardest thing possible and then submit it, you have to actually beat it first. This means that if you’re skilled enough, you could make a truly devilishly difficult Hive, beat it, and then challenge your friends to complete it.

The seemingly simple addition should extend the life of Gears 5 well beyond what was offered in previous titles. By giving players the tools to create their own fun, The Coalition is ensuring that players keep on creating experiencing they want to play at a pace they’re able to do so. Besides, sometimes these kind of map builders end up generating some of the most ingenious content and designs that not even the creators could have dreamed of.

The Gears 5 Escape map builder will be launching alongside the game, so there won’t be a wait at launch to get your hands dirty with creativity.

Gears 5 is shaping up to be a real hit. The Coalition stated they first had to gain everyone’s trust with Gears 4, and now they’re just letting it rip. Shacknews’ own Ozzie Mejia had some hands-on experience with Escape mode, where he did his best to carry his team to safety.

E3 2019 is far from over, and Shacknews has plenty more coverage coming over the next few days, so stay tuned for more!
